About Yung Bae:
Portland native Dallas Cotton aka Yung Bae heralds the rise of Future Funk, stewarding the sub-genre from its niche underground internet culture into a cult-like phenomena.
Throughout his extensive catalog, now spread across 6 albums, a collection of EPs and singles, Yung Bae mesmerizes his listener with an intoxicating blend of the traditional and modern, falling somewhere between smooth jazz, funk, old school hip-hop, and Studio 54 disco.
Yung Bae himself is an extension of his music; humble, relaxed, taking things as they come. At age 18 he left college, spending his free time learning Ableton and eventually posting a song a day on Soundcloud. “The first mixtape,” says Yung Bae, “I made it in a week at my parent’s house. It’s still weird to me that it somehow became one of Bandcamp’s most downloaded albums.”
The inspiration behind his music is often drawn from chillwave acts like Neon Indian, rock bands like The Doobie Brothers, DJs like Madlib, 90s hip-hop, and unsurprisingly “anybody who’s touched funk”. He still dedicates hours daily to digging the internet for obscure samples, always challenging himself to push the envelope creatively.
After years of experimenting and honing his craft, his passion and commitment to music remains unwavering. Now Yung Bae is seen playing global festival stages and world headline tours. Newly signed to Sony Arista, Yung Bae is set to release new music as early as Spring 2020.
